│▒┌┘ Beholder - Network Monitor
└─┘
The Beholder is the next incarnation of NetCure (Analyzer/Monitor
program set: look for NETCUR.ZIP on CIS-NOVA). The Beholder is run on
a DOS-based Ethernet + packet driver linked PC, and can be interrogated
using SNMP (and TFTP for the retrieval of error/log-files). Its
screen layout is much like the NetMon screen setup from the NetCure set.
NetCure was born (with NetMare as an alias) as a first offshoot of several
projects bundled in the Data Network Performance Analysis Project (DNPAP) at
the Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering,
Laboratory of Computer Architecture and Digital Techniques. DNPAP's research
group has been initiated by Jan van Oorschot. The main attention of this group
is focused on the analysis and modelling of complex network structures, in
order to increase overall network performance.
The DNPAP group offers you, (in cooperation with Artefact for the LAN part of
the world), a taste of things to come: a universal and powerful set of
network tools to support proper network management.
To reach the large group of network managers worldwide, Jan van Oorschot
decided to offer NetCure and its decendants for free through the
Internet. As we have had a long and mutually stimulating relationship
with Jan & his DNPAP (terrible acronym... Jan!) group, Artefact adds
add to his effort to bring DNPAP's network management tools under
the attention of as much 'LAN managers' as possible, by uploading it to
various public BBSs.
NetCure has been very popular (thousands of copies have been downloaded
already!). Support for NetCure in the LAN environment will continue to
be available from:
